Crossword puzzles are found in almost any newspaper. Some magazines also provide readers with fun word games like crossword puzzles, anagrams, or search term games. They can be done during the day, at night, or while you relax on your lunch break.

Anagrams or any shuffling of words in which you need to find terms and phrases also help you learn new vocabulary words and it provides a way to learn proper usage of the word in sentences. Games that give you a definition and have you guess the word increase your knowledge base for language.

The main goal for any form of learning is to learn and maintain the knowledge that you have learned. Vocabulary words are not unlike many other things in life where, if practiced well, you can keep the knowledge base of word usage without slowly forgetting what you've learned.

Again, these methods are difficult, but the intention should be to continue practice and not allow yourself to lazily skip days of learning. As you continue to use different words and practice your knowledge, they become second nature and the words in which you didn't understand a few days ago will become engrained and used freely just like more simple vocabulary words.
