Moving Past Word Limits With Ultimate Vocabulary

Most researchers have noted there is a need to alter the way in which teaching vocabulary is approached.  Researchers are now finding that, through the wrong instruction, are also difficulties in applying words to everyday situations, such as with communication, listening and reading.  Software tools and outside resources are used to offer more opportunities for reading and application.  One of the known tools that is moving toward the center of vocabulary learning is “Ultimate Vocabulary.”  Understanding the applications of this software system and how it enhances a student’s learning, is the beginning to better vocabulary building.

Building vocabulary at any age is an easy way to advance in communication and comprehension.  However, to do this, there is the need to have new methodologies that provide instantaneous results.  This promises better comprehension and capabilities for speaking among others that are interested in creating an understanding on different levels.  One of the newest approaches now being used for word use and vocabulary building is vocab software.  This allows individuals to take a new approach to learning and comprehension.

There are several types of vocab software options now on the market.  This includes Ultimate Vocabulary, Ultimate Word Attack, Wordsmart, Vocabulary Skills, eWords, Gocabulary and Super Tutor.  All these software devices are designed with ways to build vocabulary, memorize various words and to play games that help with comprehension.  However, many pedagogical studies have found that, while software tools all help to build vocabulary, some are more effective then others in offering the best results.

The main concept you want to search for when you are looking into software tools is whether it offers a diversity of applications for success.  This includes the ability to browse and discover what words combined with enhanced features that introduce you to dictionary and thesaurus words.  Tracking your progress and using exercises and tests should also be a part of this.  The use of these different qualities provides better comprehension because it offers the new to the known, combined with in depth processing of words and the ability to comprehend words at different levels.  Through various studies, these attributes are known to work most effectively with students that are learning vocabulary9.

Spelling bees, basic definitions and conversations are known as traditional methods for teaching children vocabulary.  However, it has been found that these foundational methods implemented for learning vocabulary often times miss some of the needed development skills for children.  Because of this, educators and those interested in English that is enhanced through vocabulary, are looking for new and innovative methods for teaching children vocabulary.  Finding vocabulary building software that provides the correct tools is the beginning to getting the correct results.

Getting The Right Vocabulary Tool

Building vocabulary for children includes having the capacity to understand a wide variety of concepts, as well as the correct application of different words.  For this to work effectively children should look up any new words in their reading that are not understood.  For correct context of words to be applied on a daily basis, a vocabulary tool to define what is being used should be established and applied to reading, communication, speech and other needs.

The concept of vocabulary requires different tools for learning, not only to expand vocabulary, but also to find ways to enhance learning through regularly applying what is learnt.  Most children who are learning language learn at different levels of application.  The first is the ability to apply language to memory as a storage area.  This can be short term or long term, and does not include comprehension for practical use.  The only way for children to understand vocabulary at a different level is to move it into the working memory, which consists of the ability to comprehend, learn and reason at the same time[1].

This particular concept moves past the memory needs and into new concepts that are a part of vocabulary tools.  For instance, when a vocabulary word also includes application into different context, it is remembered in working memory for a longer period of time.  The more meaning a word has, for instance, the more it can be applied to everyday conversation.  Several theories state that understanding the context leads to more meaning with diverse words.  As this occurs, the processing and levels of understanding allows for the words to be used for creative production.

Beyond this concept, are different levels which lead to creative concepts, as well as application with vocabulary.  It has been shown that learning has three systems in the mind that interact with each other.  This includes cognitive structures, information storage and psychomotor learning.  When these can be processed at different levels, it allows for children and youth to have a better understanding with the needed vocabulary[2].

With this understanding of the levels of learning, is the need for children to have things such as vocabulary tools.  By adding in learning at these layers, children are better able to comprehend the vocabulary words needed, combined with applying vocabulary through both memory, recognition and developed meaning.

Using Vocabulary Software

In traditional learning, children are given a set of vocabulary words to memorize, with tests given to spell and define the words.  With this form of teaching, are several problems that have arisen, mostly linked to children being able to recall and recognize the words after they have been memorized.  If you want to have an option to help children not only memorize words, but also to use them in every day conversation, then tools such as vocabulary software can be used to help with getting the right wording.

The ideal of learning vocabulary has led to several who have found particular needs that should be met with applying vocabulary building.  It has been shown that the more children understand vocabulary, the more they are able to comprehend text with both basic understanding and analysis.  Because of this, it is important to not only provide basic definitions of the words, but also an understanding of how this works effectively for those who are creating comprehension for text and words[1].
