Importantly try to read the same piece of news from different newspapers which gives you understanding of different views of the same topic. Vocabulary can be improved by reading reputed newspapers and also journals from editors. Importantly make sure that you practise all learning sessions with complete devotion. As the saying goes anything done half heartedly will never be full filled.
